
Guitarist
and pedagogue Luiz Cláudio Ribas Ferreira was born in Curitiba, Brazil,
where he was introduced to music by guitarist Valdomiro Prosdóssimo.
Later, he completed his studies under the supervision of Prof. Henrique
Pinto, in São Paulo, Brazil. Mr. Ferreira has also studied guitar with
Hupert Kappel (GER) and Robert Brightmore (UK), music history and
baroque aesthetics with Jacques Ogg (HOL) and analysis with Osvaldo
Colarusso (BRA).
Mr. Ferreira has been awarded the first prize
in the major guitar competitions in Brazil, including: Brazilian Young
Concertists, Isaias Sávio Guitar Competition, Abel Carlevaro Guitar
Competition, Soroptimist International Young Artists, among others. He
has been performing extensively both as a soloist and chamber musician
since 1980. As an arranger, he has done several recordings for
Brazilian radio and television. Since 1989, Mr. Ferreira is a teacher at Escola de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná
in Curitiba, Brazil, where he's been also one of the Guitar
Orchestra's conductors. Since then, he has been invited to teach and perform in
several music festivals throughout the country and has supervised a
great number of students who have achieved high praise in the guitar
scene in Brazil and abroad. Currently, he is a member of the Ars Guitar Quartet.
